A video posted to social media by the new political motion committee Republican Accountability Project (RAP) on Wednesday known as out members of the GOP which have maintained help for former President Donald Trump and espoused conspiracy theories.
In January, Trump supporters breached the U.S. Capitol constructing in an effort to stop the certification of President Joe Biden‘s victory in the Electoral College. Many Democratic lawmakers positioned the blame on Trump’s baseless claims that he misplaced the election as a result of of widespread voter fraud.
After persevering with to help Trump’s claims, some Republican members of Congress have been thought-about complicit in the creation of the riot by Democrats. Wednesday’s advert from the RAP implies that the actions and statements of some GOP members have positioned the “soul” of the Republican celebration is at risk.
“New Ad: The fight for the soul of the Republican Party is right now,” learn a Wednesday tweet from the RAP. “Whose side are you on?”
“Matt Gaetz and other Trump ultra-loyalists are fighting for a Republican party that promotes lies, violence and promotes anti-Semitic conspiracy theories,” a voiceover says on the video. “And now they want to exile Republicans like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for standing up to a president that caused an insurrection on the United States Capitol. To save the soul of the Republican Party, we must stand up for those who act with integrity and against the ones that lie.”
Newsweek reached out to Gaetz’s workplace for remark.
Cheney and Kinzinger each voted in favor of impeaching Trump for his alleged connection to inciting the Capitol riot.
In the video, Ohio Representative Jim Jordan and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy might be seen echoing Trump’s claims that the election was stolen. Texas Representative Louie Gohmert might be heard telling folks “you got to go to the streets and be violent. Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s speculation that the 2018 California wildfires were caused by a “Jewish house laser” was also highlighted.
On its website, the RAP says that the Republicans who actively supported Trump’s position “invented and disseminated lies, misinformation, and conspiracy theories to rile up their base and advance their very own careers at the expense of the nation and the Constitution.”
In January, the RAP began a billboard campaign calling for Jordan, McCarthy, Gohmert, Greene and 8 other Republican lawmakers to step down.
“You lied about the election,” the billboards said. “The Capitol was attacked.” The billboards have been positioned in the representatives’ dwelling districts.
Greene reacted to the RAP’s campaign on Twitter in January, calling Republican RAP Chairman Bill Kristol an “America Last globalist.”
“Perpetual warmongering, pro-abortion Democrats like Bill Kristol are not welcome in the GOP,” Greene wrote. “Their neocon reign of death in the womb & across the world in pointless wars is unmatched. These America Last globalists are clinging to relevance because the People have rejected them.”
In January, the RAP introduced it will try to raise $50 million so as to assist the campaigns of Republicans who voted in favor of impeaching Trump for inciting the riot at the Capitol constructing. Trump was impeached in the House for a second time in January. A Senate trial is predicted to start subsequent week.
